Elizabeth May

Is it Principled or just Personal?

Accountability. Transparency. Good internal governance. Strong leadership. This is what the Green Party and it's volunteers deserve. This blog will focus on how the Green Party operates as a means to encouraging the Party to become the best political party it can be.

If you visit report on greens that's what you'll find at the top.  I guess it's the motto of RoG, and how could you disagree?

I noticed that paragraph after reading the Chronicle Herald article title Greens may give May a break on leadership rules.  In a word the title is misleading.

Leadership Race Motions

After reading through the leadership race motions I get a feeling that we may be on the right track. Three of the four motions transition us from a fixed leadership term to a variable term. There is a question about the threshold of support the leader must achieve to avoid a contest. Steve Kisby suggests 50% where Richard Tyssen suggests 60% and Rob does not specify. Personally I think 50% is fine however if we wanted to raise the bar I would use 2/3. I also like the 2 year review in the event that we go more than 2 years without an election (like the 90s). Richard has another good idea.

Last Ten EKOS Polls

EKOS Politics LogoWhenever I bring up a poll result that is particularly positive those who champion the idea that the GPC is in an awful state bring up the fact that it's just one poll and we shouldn't read too much in to it.  You know what?  They're right, one poll doesn't really mean much.  Of course they are guilty of it too.  They post polls with more negative results with the same glee I post polls with mo

Anti-Prorogation

The political parties came to support it late in the game with the exception of Elizabeth May from the Green Party who is the only leader who seems to understand social movement politics

New Poll for the New Year

January EKOS PollA new EKOS poll was released this morning that has the GPC at 13.4% nationally.  I think it's awesome and probably related to Elizabeth speaking out so strongly and early against prorogation and Canadians' general dissatisfaction with the old line parties.  What I find more promising than the national numbers are the provincial/regional breakdowns and the momentum.

Done With Report on Greens

I have been reading the Report on Greens blog for just a little over a year now but I'm done.  I can't read it anymore.  It's just not worth it.

They have always taken a rather adversarial approach to the GPC but they have simply gone too far.  The main authors Mark Taylor and John Ogilvie like to believe they are actually doing some honest reporting but their reports muster about the same level of journalistic integrity as Glen Beck or in Ogilvie's case Ann Coulter.

A great new video!

What a Horrible Debate

Last night a I cringed and rolled my eyes through a god awful debate.  In fact I have a hard time calling it a debate.

Elizabeth did quite well although she was handicapped by the fact that she has integrity and remained honest.

The moderator was perhaps the worst moderator I have seen in a debate (and this includes student debates).

The question was asinine.  Who ever designed that question should have realized that it would distort the conversation Climate Change.
