It's Finally Here!

For GPC members we have the members yahoo group.
For those interested in the goings on of federal council we have the council observers list.
For those interested in Green policy development there's a group for you.

There are lots of groups.  Some say too many, and they might have a case but there has been one group that we have gone far too long without.  There has been one group that has been so obviously needed it is shocking that is only being created now.

I invite all of you to join the new Google group, GPC Crazies!

Are you a birther? Truther? Druid?

GPC Crazies is the place for you!

Jews control new media? SUV ownership should be a capital crime?  We should get rid of countries and organize by biosphere?

Pre-Olympic Break Trades

GPC enforcer Georges LaraqueThere was a flurry of activity leading up to the NHL Olympic break.  Massive deals saw Phaneuf coming to Toronto from Calgary and Toskala heading to Anaheim in exchange for Giguere. After failing to renegotiate his contract the Atlanta Thrashers dealt franchise player Ilya Kovalchuk to New Jersey.

However the team that made out the best was perhaps the Green Party of Canada who acquired veteran enforcer Georges Laraque from the Montreal Canadiens.  While the GPC has maintained record levels of youth and enthusiasm it has been clear that they have been suffering this season from a lack of size.

With Laraque now in the lineup the GPC is setting their sites on a long playoff run but team captain Elizabeth May was quick to point out that it will take Laraque a few games to become accustom to the systems employed by the Greens.

New Theme

So the theme that I had been using for this blog had a few problems:

  1. it was slow.
  2. it was pretty ugly
  3. it was almost impossible to see what was a new comment and what was a reply to comment

I think this theme is pretty ugly however it's much quicker and the comments are nested better.  2 out of 3 ain't bad.  Let me know if you like this theme more than the old one.

My Dad is on Buses and Other Observations

Sorry for not blogging much for the last while I have been working away on the Second Annual Sandy Hill Holiday Food Drive.  I'll write up a blog about that soon.

Lowes which is a large retailer similar to Rona and Home Depot is opening a new store in Ottawa on December 14th.  One of the things that Lowes does to promote their stores and give their stores a more human face is to use the store manager in there promotional materials.

Five Kittens

The Ottawa Humane Society has a fostering program where cats who have a cold or kittens that are underweight go and live with "foster parents" until they are able to put them up for adoption.  Katie and I are part of this program and last night brought home 5 kittens who will be staying with us for the next few weeks.

Congratulations Katie

Yesterday Katie had her "comps" which is a 2-3 hour oral PhD entrance exam.  She passed with flying colors, her supervisor (who does not often give compliments) said she did brilliantly!

Anyway now Katie is a PhD student which I think is really cool.

Congratulations Katie!

Jon Stewart is America's Most Trusted Newscaster

Time magazine has conducted a poll and the results are in:  Jon Stewart is America's Most Trusted Newscaster!

You know I think Stewart is great but it the state of American journalism must be horrible when the most trusted name in news is the host of a 30 minute 4 day a week fake news comedy show.

Idea for Ottawa Hydro

As I've mentioned before I've been reading the book Nudge and it's really great!  They tell a quick story about a power provider in California who (to help customers conserve energy) started displaying the average consumption of their customers on each bill so that customers could compare their usage to the average usage.

I Made Sushi

Yeah you read that right, I, Dave Bagler, have made sushi.

I was apprehensive at first because I don't really like sushi. To be fair I still think making it is more fun than eating it.
