When I was trying to decide what to do for my community event I had some criteria that I need to follow. For example it had to be on for before December 20th and it had to relate to the ideas I put forward in my audition video. This criterion was given to me by the CBC producers of Canada’s Next Great Prime Minister (CNGPM) but I decided that my community event would have to go beyond that.

If you watch the audition videos of the other contestants you’ll see that in general most contestants talk about a variety of issues ranging from the environment, to animal rights, to proportional representation and electoral reform.

I have to admit that I agree with a lot of what some people said, but for my audition video I decided to go another direction. I decided to spend my audition video focusing on ending poverty in Canada. I’ve decided to spend my campaign focusing on ending poverty in Canada.

Let me get this straight.

The government of Canada is risking another 300 million dollar election in a period of a few months to do what? Save us 30 million dollars?

See, this is what happens when politics trumps policy. Getting rid of public funding to “save the Canadian tax payers’ money” sounds like a noble cause but in reality it’s a not so subtle way of going after your opposition.

I’m Dave Bagler and I have entered the CBC’s Canada’s Next Great Prime Minister contest. I have been interested in politics longer than I can remember and I want to share my vision of Canada with you.
