Well I wanted to post this last Wednesday but I ran out of time and was busy with Canada Day and then the weekend, but now here’s part 4 of the policy motions: Justice and Democracy. Here is a link to Vision Green for reference. Also if you haven't gone through yet take a minute to look over the previous resolutions:
| Resolution code | Resolution title and my thoughts on the resolution |
|---|---|
| G10-p12 | Senate Reform |
| This changes our senate reform policy from holding a referendum on what direction to take to a more specific policy of electing senators in a way that ensures proportional representation. This is specific enough to show that we support an elected senate and proportional representation while not locking us down into a specific election format. I’m for it. | |
| G10-p13 | Aboriginal Representation in the Senate |
| Designate a certain number of senate seats for first nations representatives. I think this is a very good idea although I would add a clause about them being elected just in case G10-p13 passes but G10-p12 does not. | |
| G10-p14 | Gun Control |
| While I agree with those who think we need to phase-out handguns I’m not really sure I agree with this policy. The policy seems to be addressing both legal handgun sales and illegal handgun smuggling. I would much rather see this issues addressed in separate policies. I’ll vote to workshop in hopes that we can split this resolution and tackle both problems somewhat independently. | |
| G10-p20 | Decriminalization and Recognition of Poly-Sexual |
| No, no, a thousand times NO! For those who question the party opinion let me assure you if we adopt this policy we will look ridiculous. Massive, glowing red flag, red card. | |
| G10-p28 | Equal Parenting |
| Yeah I’m all for this one but I’ll will vote to workshop because I think the last clause about this policy being included in the platform should be removed. I don’t have any problem with it being in the platform but that should be left up to those making the platform. |
