BGM Policy Resolutions Part 3: Health and Environment

GPC LogoPart 3 of the policy motions: Health and Environment. Here is a link to Vision Green for reference.  For the record I had far more fun with the governance resolutions.  Since tomorrow is Canada Day I’ll try to get to post tomorrows blog (BGM Policy Resolutions Part 4: Justice and Democracy) later today. Also if you haven't gone through yet take a minute to look over the previous resolutions:

Governance Policy
part one - Council Structure and Obligations part one - Economy and Finance
part two - General Meeting and Party Procedure part two - Foreign Affairs
part three - Shadow Cabinet and Policy Development you're reading it
part four - Leadership hopefully later today
part five - Regional Organizing - EDAs Friday
Resolution code Resolution title and my thoughts on the resolution
G10-p08 Recovery of Wastewater Nanoparticles
This resolution calls for a licencing system for manufacturers of products that include nanoparticles.  I assume that this licencing system would apply to nanoparticles in non-food products and our current policy regarding food products (ban non naturally occurring nanoparticles in them) would still stand?  I read through the discussion on this resolution on the Green Party’s website and I don’t think we should be proposing a solution for something that we’re not even sure is a problem.  I’m going to vote no on this one.
G10-p10 Prioritizing High-Speed Rail in Canada
Fast trains between large urban centers?  Sounds good to me.
G10-p11 Reducing Carbon Emissions
Charge a fee for all emissions and then  return 100% of the fees in the form of dividend payments to all adult residents.   I think that sending everyone a cheque is a waste, not only because of the opportunities being lost to make collective investments in our future but also because of the costs related to mail everyone in Canada a cheque.  I’m voting no.
G10-p19 Ban on artificial water fluoridation products
Get the fluoride out of our drinking water!  OK I’m voting no to this one.   It’s not necessarily that I disagree with the policy, but one, this is traditionally an area of provincial jurisdiction, and two, I desperately want to avoid any policies that in anyway make us look at all like the chemtrail people.
G10-p21 Precautionary Principle
OK I’m for the Precautionary Principle but I’m not exactly sure what this resolution is doing to current policy.  Also I’m not sure what is meant by making Precautionary Principle a nation-wide policy.  I thought a federal policy would be nation-wide.  I’m not sure whether or not I should support this resolution so I’ll say that I’m voting no, unless some one provides me with a good reason to vote yes.
G10-p25 Wind Turbine Health Studies
You know I’ve been worrying about the health of our wind turbines, staying out side day and night, rain and snow, and never wearing a scarf.  Oh, you mean their effects on our health, OK.  I think this is a good policy for us to have.  We claim to be the party of reason, the party that is not simply driven by ideology.  We need policies like this one to back up that claim.  However if this was to pass I think we would need to modify our policy to expand wind power by placing a moratorium on wind developments near peoples homes until this study is complete.
G10-p31 Carbon Free National Feed in Tariff
This policy involves something that is traditionally up to the provinces.  I’m going to vote against it unless some tells me some good reasons why this needs to be a federal policy.
G10-p32 National Dementia Strategy
How does Canada not have a national dementia strategy already?   This seems pretty necessary to me.  I’m for it.
G10-p33 Seniors and Environmental Emergencies/Emergency Preparedness
Canada should be prepared to protect seniors in times of crisis.  I’ll be supporting this resolution.
